intro music plays

00:24
Here's how I want to kick off this week's SFP.  This is a visual gag,  but I feel like it can still work  in audio.  You said that you needed a short box. Yes. And I found a short box, one that I wasn't using.  I would like to test you to see how fast you can assemble that short box. Hold my beer.  Top, top, top, and bottom?  Oh, yeah. All right.  So for the listeners.

00:50
Drew currently has  and I disassembled  unassembled short box with them  and I and I just want to see how long it takes him  I bring this up because the last time I had to assemble one  I felt like a dummy I felt like I was doing a Chinese puzzle  and I could not figure it out and it took me way longer than I like to admit so I'm like damn am I just getting  old we're getting old and dusty I want to see if you fair but I don't ever see these at cons because I already made

01:15
No, no, no, no, like a contest like they have the cosplay con plus they should have like a short box like go to heroes con and be like hey listen this is what we should do to go back to my one of my earlier jokes about a comic book olympics. Yes, that would be one those. Okay, assemble the Alright ready, let me know when you're ready. Alright, ready, alright you're assembling both top and bottom. Ready, set, go. Alright timer is on. I'm gonna try to filibuster and explain. Alright Drew just hit the mic with the box as you might have heard. Oh he is definitely all up in the mic. You hear the natty sound.

01:45
Oh wow, he's doing pretty good. He's got the  bottom in. He's got the...  Okay. 14 seconds down. He's already got the bottom assembled.  Oh, he is putting his alt... Oh, he's already got the box assembled, ladies and gents. And he's going for the... He's going for the top. Oh, he's already got one side tucked in. Oh, those...  Light work. Like it's nothing. What do we got? do got? Ladies and gents, stop the time. Wait.  Assembled. Done. 33.57 seconds. Come on,  man. Going forward.

02:15
I can't even call you Drew. You need a better name. I think this might be the new name. Hey yo check it out motherfucker! I'm Tupac! Yes! I'm so excited that's there. Hey yo check it out motherfucker! I'm Tupac! That's such a sound. Damn you really good. I can see it. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Really quick. Have you had to assemble one lately? I think that's my thing. I haven't had to assemble one lately. No. It's been a minute. Wow you did that really well. Thank you.

02:41
The bottoms always get me. I always forget which side I gotta tuck in and bend and fold. Yeah, well to be fair, honestly, since I've been moving the last couple days, I've assembled boxes from the Home Depot one and I've assembled it every which way but the right way. You know what I'm talking about, huh? It tells you fold it in, turn it upside down, then tape it. I just turn it over, tape it, and I'm like, what the hell is going on? Well, I'm very impressed that you were able to assemble that so quickly on the fly. Appreciate And I would like to challenge, survey, I would like to survey the listeners.

03:10
and ask them what's your best short box assembly time. Can you beat Drew's 33.5 seconds? right? Just shy of 34 seconds. I wanna know. And if you guys could send us video proof, that would go a long way. Actually, if someone could send me video proof of you beating Drew's record, I'll send you a comic. I think that'd be a good... I'll send them some stuff too. I'll send you a comic I'll send you a trophy. I'll send you a comic to put in that now assembled short box. Okay, that was one of my warm up topics. The other warm up topic is...

03:40
I told you that there is a new comic shop that opened up by Tiger Records. Making that  strip on Stockton Street for my Jacksonville peeps. That more viable.  Just deadly for my wallet. mean, you got Bold Bean Coffee Shop, which is right next to Tiger Records, which is now right next to Black Cat Comics. So for any of my Jacksonville peeps that are looking for a new comic shop or anyone  that'll be, you know, that find themselves in Jacks or passing through Jacksonville for whatever reason.

04:09
Get yourself a cup of coffee and go to the comic shop. Yeah, and if you're into records, go also pick up a record. But anyways,  I went to Black Cat Comics last Saturday for their soft opening, which wasn't a big deal. was just like, hey, we're open now. You know, can come stop by.  And I went in there to support because  James, who owns Tiger Records, has been talking this place up. He's like, hey, man, my buddy Dan is opening it up. He's a great guy. Like, I think you guys will hit it off. I went in there, got to meet Dan, definitely hit it off. Very nice guy. He also does his own podcast. He has a comic podcast.

04:39
that he started about a year ago. It's called All New All Different Number One Comics.  So that's name of his podcast. But Drew, I picked up a couple of books. I guess before I show you this, they sell new comics. They're trying to get people to sign up for pull lists. I told them I'm already taken. I'm already happily taken. sorry, I'm seeing your comic shop already.  I'm already seeing I was like, yo, I would love to, but I'm already seeing someone. And they offered me a killer discount.  And I was like, but I will buy some books for you today. So they have new books and then they have a lot of back issues. They have

05:08
a lot of trades too, like interesting trades.  There was like a couple of like Alan Moore trades I haven't seen before, a couple of like Cosmopolitan, know like Transmopolitan,  just a bunch of cool selection of trades.  And they had a lot of wall books and this is what I ended up picking up  on Saturday.  Dang, alrighty. Dang, Spider Carnage.  Such a good comic. I love this cover so much. What is that issue again?

05:34
Just for anyone that... Amazing Spider-Man 410. Okay, yeah. First appearance of Spider-Con is... then I picked up, what is that, Submariner or Namor? Yeah, Prince Namor the Submariner. Which is cool, because this cover... number is it?  Number seven. Okay, number seven. And it's like a photo...  What is it called? It's like a...  Yeah, it's like a photo. It's Namor against...

05:58
photo of New York City a black and white photo of New York City. do they call that? Superimposed? Not superimposed, it's like There is a name for Mixed media, dang, it's gonna kill me now. Yo, these are pretty cool covers I like this dude this cover is such an iconic cover. The spider carnage, yeah. And I mean I I think I have that spider carnage book I own it, but it's in that I think you you converted it Yeah, I bound all those spider-man issues, so it was like oh, okay Well, I'll pick this up because it's kind of nostalgic and it was 20 bucks I can't be mad at that. No, no. And then I picked up the the Namor one

06:29
Mainly off the strength of the cover. I went off the vibe, you know? it called Xeroxed? Is that what it's called? I don't know. We'll figure out the technical term. Collaging. Collage. It's a collage. But is it a collage? I mean, it looks like one photo, though. Yeah, against one drawing, OK, that's a good point. I guess it does become a collage at that point. There is an issue of Daredevil, where it's like the first time that him and Spider-Man link up, and they do the same thing, where it's a collage. Or they hyperimpose them against the photo.

06:58
Yeah, can you see that? Oh wow, that's a really cool one. Yeah, it's Daredevil number 16. It's the first time Daredevil and Spider-Man cross over. So I think this might be one of my new little niche collector things, where I'm like, ooh, is that a photo of a comic book? Is that an old photo of New York? So it got me thinking, because all these books were on the wall. So I was like, oh wow, am I becoming that? I guess he had all these back issues. I just didn't have a lot of time to like.

07:25
go through each one. You're like, don't have time to do what the poor people do. I don't have time to look. Give me everything off the wall. Hey yo, check it out, motherfucker. I'm Tupac. Yeah, that's you right there. Searching for comic books? No, sir. No, sir. Tupac does not search for comic books. Hell no. But it got me thinking, like, wall books are just, it's like, uh...

07:47
I'm trying to think of like the equivalent is like either you could do the work for yourself or someone has already done it. You just got to pay a little premium. Yeah, very much So I think maybe I'm that at that age now where I'm more interested in keeping my time and it's like, someone already did the hard work and found all the cool stuff. When's the last time I guess when you go into a shop now, how often are you looking at the wall book? Oh, I'm always looking at the wall books. Always. I think there was a period where I didn't cause I knew I couldn't afford it and I didn't want to be teased. Now I think one of the best places that has wall books is Acme comics down there  outside of Orlando. yeah, dude.

08:17
They have a whole, like, not even wall books, it's like a whole collage. The entire wall. Yeah, That's a collage. Yeah, that is a collage right there. I guess what's the last, and I think Colosseum of Comics.  you when was the last time I bought Off the Wall? Yeah, when was the last time you bought Off the Wall?  I have no idea. Actually, no. It's been a while since I've What would make you buy a wall book? Like, what would it have to be? Would it have to be a certain title?  like, for example, I bought this because the cover was cool as hell.

08:45
Probably the hip hop covers, like if we were gonna go to HeroesCon, like, cause a lot of those hip hop covers have made their way to... Wall status, baby! Probably those, honestly. That's like the promised land for a back issue comic, is making it to the wall. You think comics... Acknowledge me! You think comics come to life at night, and they're like, what happened to Frank?  Oh man, Frank, and it's a daredevil issue, Frank is on the wall now.  What? Alright, I feel probably, uh...

09:13
Warm warm do, you ready bro? Okay, Drew, I've got a couple of topics I've been saving for the pod. A couple weeks ago there was the, what was the name of that event? I think it was called the Comics Pro Event, and it was announced by both the Marvel and DC editor, DC editor being Marie Javins, who is a legend in the comic industry, and current Marvel editor-in-chief, C.B. Cebulski. They did a panel together where they announced that hey, we're doing a new crossover between our respective companies.

09:42
this year at that. They're doing two one shots. One's gonna be a Marvel DC one, and the other's gonna be a DC Marvel one.  And one shots, they have not announced the creative team at all, but Marvel will be producing one of those one shots, and DC will be producing the other. I thought it was a cool, I actually read the transcript. I actually went and found the transcript from that panel. And I don't know, Marie Javin, she's just a really cool person. Like she had some jokes in there.  know, even C.B. Sobulski is working off of there.

10:09
And for some reason to me, it felt like I was looking at, I was like, wow, if Marvel and DC can get their shit together, why can't our country get their shit together? So yeah, that's all we know about this proposed Marvel DC crossover. It's been 20 years since the last time they this. years or something. 20 years. So Drew, I wanna know from you, what do you wanna see? Do you wanna see them do a like amalgam kind of story, or do you wanna see them do something like the last time they crossed over, which was like- they just fight? Where it was like the JLA and Avengers, you know.

10:39
classic superhero story. They have a misunderstanding at first, but realize they're someone pulling the strings. So do you want to see something like that or an amalgam? I want to see an amalgam. You want to see an amalgam again? I want to see an amalgam. Why? I wouldn't mind seeing an amalgam. Because you got new writers, you can see it's like...  I would like to see what a lot of these characters can do. What they can amalgam together. Like I want random amalgams. Like I don't want like Superman. Like give me Superman and... Long Shot.

11:08
Oh, so you want some super shot. I'm sorry. Is that the name of a toy? I have no idea. OK, so you don't mind an Amalgam? Yeah, just have fun with it. I guess I lean away from Amalgam because Marvel kind of did something recently with that.  Oh, the Infinity Time one. Yeah, the Infinity Warp, I think it's  called. Where they did like a mashup of their Marvel character, like Captain America, Doctor Strange, which I mean, I guess the designs look cool, but.

11:36
I don't know if I want to see that again. What team ups do you want to see? Glad you asked. I wrote down a couple of notes of things that I want to see. I definitely want to see just a story between the two teams. I don't think I want to see an amalgam. I think I want them to face like, I want to see them come together. Because you got to think it's been 20 years, right? It's been 20 years since we. You're just going to say that every time I say 20 It's been 20 years since the last time these two companies have crossed over. Think about how much has changed in those 20 years. Most importantly,

12:04
All the new characters that have been introduced. A lot. Like, you know, just off the top of my head. Miles Morales,  Kamala Khan,  Punchline, know, Joker's new assistant. Bay assistant, whatever.  Punchline. Ghost maker. Ghost maker. You know what I'm saying? It's like the amount of characters that have come out that are now in the spotlight. have like Superman's kids. You have Batman's Exactly, exactly. Like you've got like a younger crop of superheroes.

12:33
that have been established  in both companies' respective current comics and lore. So it's like, why not?  It's been 20 years. I think you could still work in your classic, your Batman's, your Superman's with your Cap's and Avengers. I would want to see Miles Morales in Static Shock. I had not thought of that. And I feel like that absolutely has to happen. But I also would be curious to see Damon Wayne with someone of that equivalent. Dr. Strange.  Damon Wayne with Kamala Khan or something would be kind of cool.

13:03
And then as far as creative team, I started thinking it's like, okay, so they're doing two one shots, one company a piece. And it's like, okay, DC I feel like has like a strong roster of writers and artists. And I feel like the most logical artist to take on the DC one shot would be Dan Mora.  Because Dan Mora feels very house style. Like Mark Waid and Dan Mora? I was thinking  Mark Waid, but I was like, ah, that's almost like too easy.

13:31
Chips of Darski. Yeah! Chips of Darski because the way his brain works, he's quirky. He would find a different angle to the story that would not be so obvious. I think Chips And he's already playing both sides. The way you said that almost made him sound like a secret agent. And you're right. They don't know.  So Dan Mora and Chips of Darski. Dan Mora is like,  his formula don't fail. And I haven't, I don't think he's done any official Marvel stuff.

14:02
He's only been a once in future clause, like, you know, those indie books and then DC exclusive. Chip Sotarski, like you said, knows both worlds. So give me that. And then on the,  on the Marvel side, I would almost say,  give me, give me Dennis Camp, cause he's been crushing in Ultimates. And I feel like he shows that he's got a really good understanding of superheroes and storytelling and, you know, he can inject like some seriousness in there and some serious topics.

14:31
And I don't know, but fucking give me Esad Ribbage. You he's doing like the Aliens and Avengers.  I think he would be a good counter to Dan Morrow, who's like more house style, a little more animated, cartoony. Esad Ribbage would draw them like Greek gods, you know, like you're looking at like Renaissance paintings. And I think I want to see him draw Superman and Batman, you know, like the DC characters who are like the Pantheon.

14:57
That is what I'm thinking. Do you want to add anything in terms of creative teams? No, it's perfect. It's really good. I would want to do my own thing. OK. My own amalgam. OK. Or my own crossover. It would be Jurassic Park and John Wick. I'll call it Jurassic Wick or John Park or whatever. I think they already did something like that called Berserk. Berserk, yeah, yeah. Berserk, but Jurassic Berserk. All right. I want to go back to our talk about Marvel DC crossover. So I pose this question to the patrons. And surprisingly, we got a lot of responses. I want to read some of the responses we got.

15:27
And it was my same question. Hey, what you want to see? What characters do you want to see cross paths? What creative team? And here's some of the questions or answers we got.  Nick Underwood chimed in and said, having not read the previous crossovers, I would be more drawn to the existing characters interacting than something like Amalgam. So he was more in line with me, like getting to see the characters be themselves interacting. And then Ryan Isaacson chimed in. Amalgam universe. I like alternate universe storyline  that has some depth.

15:56
And I agree, I wouldn't mind seeing another amalgam, especially considering like, you know, the same point can also be used here, where it's been 20 years, bunch of different characters, think about all the redesigns, new costumes, updated looks, how that would now look. But what worries me a little bit, like it's not really worries, because it's fucking comic, I'm not that worried, but just two one-shots feels weird. You know, it's like, it's been 20 years,  how big are these two one-shots? Let's say they're like 96 pages or whatever.

16:23
They would have to be a very thick, know, like one of those really thick $9.99. Oh, they're not charged $9.99 for this. You're right. $15.99. Yeah, right. Yeah, exactly. But two one shots, it almost feels like, oh, man, you're printing money at this point, Marvel. Do you see, like, give us like a 12 maxi. It should be as simple as like, hey, let's write these things and we can just share on them. But it's like licensing deals. Well, it sounds like whatever they got figured out. I bet you this is a test run. I bet you this is to see, like, let's test the waters. You know, the Omnibus's.

16:53
the reprints, the Amalgam OmniBus, the Marvel DC crossover OmniBus, all sold out. I think that was one thing at this Comics Pro Expo was that  before this panel or announcement even happened,  like I said, I read the transcript, so it broke it down  minute by minute, but it said that as soon as  Marie Javin and Siby Sabolsky sat down. This is  an expo for just retailers, people that own comic shops or work at comic shops, the business side. It said that as soon as they sat down,

17:22
someone raised their hand and was like, yo, can y'all reprint that Amalgam Omnibus? And they're like, yo, bro, we just sat down. We just sat down. So it's like, OK, those Omnibuses are hot. They sold. People obviously wanted them. And to go back a little bit before that, you remember when George Perez had passed away? They reprinted the JLA Avengers story in that trade. And it was shop exclude. I think it was only like 1,000 made.

17:50
you know, don't quote me on the number, but very limited. So it was like that sold out, then the Omnibus is sold out. So now they're giving us these two one shots and I That's gonna sell out. For sure. And I mean, think about how many covers. Let's get on record, let's get on record. How many covers do you think between these two one shots are we getting? 75. 75 covers. I think this is gonna be a case of, if you work in the economy industry, you probably will get an opportunity to do one.

18:19
Imagine being like an artist and you're talking to your other artist homie and you're like yo man What you working on and he's like dude Marvel DC you ever heard they're doing another crossover. I'm doing the ZZB cover bro You didn't get invited? Nah, I must have not checked my email You know what like think about how many covers that and just how many artists will have a chance to do one Exclusive, retailer exclusive. I wonder if this will be a case of like bro. You didn't get asked to do a Marvel DC cover They're doing like a thousand of them. How did you not get asked?

18:49
So that's what, oh, I got one more,  I got one more email to read on this topic.  This one comes from Matt Godwin, our good buddy from fucking New Zealand. Hell yeah. Chimed in, he sent an email and said, hey, I haven't read the other Marvel and DC stuff, so I could be asking for stuff that's already happened, but I'd love to see a big bad from each side team up. Then three or four writer artists from Marvel and DC either swap companies, or if that's too big of an ask, just stay.

19:16
And each team pairs up a Marvel DC character to go on an 8 to 10 issue mission to figure out something. And at the end, all of the teams come together with their respective missions complete to finally bring down the big bad and epic event. So it's basically, because this sounds a lot like the JLA Avengers story,  where it's like every issue is like certain pairings going off to find an artifact or some MacGuffin and then coming together. So just an extended version of that. That'd be cool. What two, I guess, what villains would you have to do? What baddies?  Yeah, what baddies would you have to do?

19:46
For villains? Who have been like some of the major ones? Major Marvel villains? Yeah, the recent years. Paul from Spider-Man. Yeah. Okay, who is someone that isn't Galactus or Thanos? Or do think they would just stick with like the big guns? I almost feel like you would almost have to create like a... Would you want to see a brand new villain? Who's the Venom villain?  Oh, Null. Null, Null. That's a good choice. Null, Carnage. Okay, Symbiotes is hot.

20:13
So yeah, maybe it's our hot, I'm trying to think like. All right, DC side, DC side. Can't do dark side. Lobo? Well, he's not really a villain, he just has an anti-hair. And is he big enough to warrant this big ass crossover? It'd have to be like a new god of some equivalent. So you're talking about like the collector, the beyonder, those type of level? Yeah, I would almost say for Marvel, I think you'd go to that level of like time, space. Okay.

20:41
Oh man, okay, my mind can go all over the place. But I feel like Crime Syndicate would be a good, you know, we're talking like alternate universes. It's all kind of hot. I think you can also do maybe on the DC side, like Necron, you know, the black lantern god of death. But for some reason, I personally wouldn't mind seeing either Doomsday be a villain, an army of fucking doomsdays or something like that, or like the ultimate doomsday, or even like Reverse Flash again.

21:09
Oh yeah, reverse flash reverse You know, someone that's like messing with time that can like...  Aberthon, yeah that'd be really... But who would help him on the Marvel side like just because he just loves chaos? Hmm... I think Null. I think Null is a great choice. I think there's a lot of room to play with him on there. Okay, so let's move on. So that was my first topic. Let's move on to my next one which is the very obvious Daredevil born again. Which I guess I should say if you have not watched the first two episodes of Daredevil born again.

21:37
Spoiler warning, because we might get into some details here. Yeah, go to YouTube and watch the first five minutes. OK, Drew, Daredevil born again. You had a day. You watched the day it dropped. I just wrapped up episode two. How has it sat with you?  good. Definitely. You're feeling good about it? How are you feeling about it? I'm feeling really good and excited about it. I  wish there was more episodes.  Like, that's what I'm at right now. Now I'm in the waiting game. I'm like, crap, all right. This is the one time that I was like,

22:05
I could have just dropped the whole trailer the whole season. I to watch it. Definitely feels like a turning point in Marvel television It feels real lived in this feels like we say what you will about the quality of the Netflix show I personally think they were pretty damn solid especially the daredevil I think the devil Darrell the daredevil is Very safe to say that was the best of the Marvel Netflix series and I would almost personally I'd say Luke Cage was like close second say what you will however you feel about the daredevil Netflix series I think

22:34
The fact that the entire cast, Charlie Cox,  Vincent D'Onofrio,  everyone, the fact that they had two seasons, and mean, those were long seasons. They were like nine, 13 episodes. Yeah, there were lot of compared to this one.  So watching them here, they seem so comfortable. They seem confident. They're like, we've already done this. And now we're coming into a show that the fans want. We've got...

23:01
Disney money now, know, like Disney's acknowledging us and like, you know, we're not like the redheaded stepchild to the MCU. We can kill people, it's okay. So it just feels,  it feels like the cast is confident, like they've, you know, it feels like they're putting on like a jacket, their favorite jacket  is how I feel for it. And then it feels polished and it feels, it doesn't feel that far off from Netflix, but there's something about Netflix quality versus a show like this, you know, like the way it's shot, the camera quality, the lighting, all of that.

23:30
So I love that. The first 10 minute, you did not tell me how intense the first 10 minutes of that episode one was. There's no talking. My jaw was on the floor the entire time. And I think I told you, I didn't say this on the podcast, but I kind of ruined, I spoiled, I spoiled the show for Oh yeah, I forgot about this. I tried watching this show the same day, and I accidentally pressed play on episode two first, and they gave me a recap of episode one, and I found out Foggy.

24:01
spoiler warning, was killed in episode one. I didn't know he was killed in the first five minutes of episode one. That was a little jarring, that off the bat we're killing one of the quintessential cast members. Yeah, they're like, this isn't your mom's Disney. Damn right. isn't your mom's Daredevil. Not at all. It's like, this is on Disney? So that was very jarring. And then to see Bullseye already, you know, it was like, oh shit, they're hitting the ground running. But they did that in Kevin Smith's Guardian Devil. That's the first thing you do is he's trying to like...

24:30
think it's the first issue. It's whatever issue it is that like yo, they kill Karen Page immediately Yeah, they kill her  pretty  early in that series in that series and it's just like it's all I'll fight between bullseye and and Daredevil I'm gonna just kind of list off some the notes I have and feel free to react or chime in okay, I have a quote from  Kingpin here because I feel like he just has it the way the way his Vincent Nafre has formulated his speech pattern. It's you listen  right like

24:59
because he does that kind of pause and it feels like it's really hard.  Everything he says is just real guttery. The  animated kingpin kind of ruined a lot of how I think kingpin sounds. You're waiting for him to speak like this, Andrew. I'm doing apocalypse.  But Vincent D'Onofrio does not like. No. Which I mean, he's had two seasons to perfect the character.  And  that's what I'm saying. It feels like going into the season that real time has passed for all of them.

25:29
Kingpin has lost weight, he's gained muscle.  I will say, I think so much time has passed, I would have done good by watching a recap, because I did have a lot of questions, and I was real surprised that episode one had no recap. It was like, I don't care if you know shit about Daredevil. Foggy dies. Yeah, foggy dies. But I have a quote from Kingpin  from episode one. I love a man that rises above his nature. Good luck with that, Murdock. I thought that whole  diner scene between them.

25:57
The only thing that was missing from that diner scene was Denzel Washington in the corner.  in there like I would have... Doing something ordinary. They're looking dangerous.  100%. Making chili. But there's a gun in the chili.  Okay, so don't know why I wrote that quote down. I think it's just to emphasize that Vincent D'Onofrio  and Charlie Cox on screen together. That tension. That chemistry. They have mad good chemistry when it comes to like... I will tell you now the one thing that threw me off for the longest... I thought his wife was dead.

26:26
I thought he was just seeing her. That's what I'm saying. forgot.  You know, like this picks up immediately after season two. So I'm like, all right, what was Vanessa's situation and what happened to Kingpin and was she always cheating on? You know what saying? I had a lot of questions about like, ah, I don't remember what happened.  But okay, what else have I got? Matt is smart, charming, flirty and tortured, which I think is.

26:49
That's how I like my Matt He plays a blind angle pretty good. That he does. He doesn't come off like a womanizer in the show like he's kind of like known for in the comics, but he is charming and he is flirty. know, like him meeting the psychiatrist lady, the therapist lady. And she's from How to Make an America. Who does she play in How to Make an She played Ben Epstein's girlfriend in the second season. Wow. Or no, the first season. It was the one girl that he met that got him all the t-shirts and then she was like, hey, are we going to be serious? And he's like, no, I'm kind of working on my

27:17
So when I saw her was like, oh snap, let's go. She leveled up. She went from hanging out with a dude that's making t-shirts to a lawyer. Well then in that case, Random recognized the actress that plays Kirsten McDuffie, Matt's now law partner. Her name is Nikki M. James. And if I'm not mistaken, I'll check her IMDB. She's in Severance. Oh really? She plays Mark's girlfriend. Oh, okay Or not girlfriend, but they were dating in the beginning.

27:44
in season one. I was like, oh, it's her. She loves my boys.  Also, I love the fact that they're teasing him going to church. I got so excited when he was outside of church. like, ooh, man. think they're so they haven't they've been showcasing his powers, his ability to like, you know, hear really well through, you know, the conversations, which I think is a lot of fun because you get kind of like the landscape of the New York and, you know, the people around him and what he's got to deal with.

28:10
I think they're doing that really cool. He's like just basically listening in on conversations. I wonder if they will do any echolocation. Will they, you know like in the Netflix series, it was like that weird, like people were on fire the way he viewed them. Like you know they were, I don't know, I don't know how to describe it. Yeah, I wanna see how he sees things. Through the Disney lens. Yeah, I wanna see, cause you know it's like they got two seasons of show to look at and be like okay.

28:35
That was always kind of a weird way to show it, but it worked because that's all we had. It was the best way that they've shown up to that point. I want to see how they further show Matt's abilities.  I thought Karen being in San Francisco was a cool callback to the Mark Wade run  of Daredevil.  I see why it's called Born Again. It's not meant to be literal about the Frank Miller comic. I think it's more spiritual in the sense of like, Matt lost Foggy  and

29:03
this, you he went down a completely different route. You think Foggy's dead?  I don't want him to be dead, but I think he is. mean, we still have the Because they did that last time. So remember in the Ed Bruderbaker run where Foggy gets stabbed to death? That's right. And they hide him. And yeah, they basically hide him through witness protection. Because I'm like, I wonder if they're going to do that, if we're going to get the witness protection. I mean, he could be dead. Yeah, very much. I mean, so that just means that that actor collected a pretty nice. I'm sure that he'll show up again.

29:32
I'm sure he'll be in flashbacks and things like that. Or Matt's young and his hairs comb forward. But I say the action so far,  we got a lot of action in episode one. Episode two, I think we got to see White Tiger fight  those dirty cops. But then we also saw  Matt whoop they ass at the end of the episode. I love how the episode ends with him screaming. He didn't want to do it. He didn't want to have to put  hands and feet to fucking face and body.

29:59
And he broke people's arms. Oh, he broke that dude. That dude might as well just chop that arm off. He ain't ever gonna use that arm again. Yeah, he beat the shit out of them.  What'd think of  Bullseye? Is he the same Bullseye from the Netflix? Okay, okay. scary.  I wish he was talking. I wish he was talking. He was just, he was all about his business. When he ends up laughing in Matt's face as he's, as Matt is crying because Foggy is, you know, on the fucking sidewalk bleeding out dead, I was like, yo, this Bullseye is scary.

30:29
and how effortlessly he's just like killing everybody. Paper clip to the face, knife. And I was like, how many knives does he have in his pockets? He's just throwing like pool balls. was like, Matt, was like, Matt, hurry up and stop him before he starts killing more people. was like, holy shit. Okay. Matt is a smart, charming, flirting and tortured. All right. First 10 minutes blew my mind all the way to the title card. That's right. Cause the first 10 minutes,  I mean, the show doesn't even open up with a title card intro music. It's  straight,  no shits and giggles straight to the action.

30:59
And then once that first opening scene is done, Matt tosses his mask off the roof and then the title card starts. I was like, all right, all right. You got me. back, we back, we back. You got me. Let's see. gonna be pushups. I've also got a note here. Spider-Man confirmed shared universe. Because in episode two, Kingpin says something to the effect of like, we don't need a man dressed as a devil or.

31:26
A guy swinging through the neighborhoods and then he says one other name to confirm like, you know, there's a bunch of vigilantes and superheroes. So I thought that was kind of a little cool Easter egg.  Also, the theme of the show is,  I mean, just picking up on some of the topics and what they're going for, but it's very much talking about like the cost of doing, like what's the cost of doing what's right, you know, and trying to abandon your past because...

31:53
White Tiger, know, mean, White Tiger's in a prime example. He was just trying to do what's right and it's costing him. Same thing for Matt. He was just trying to do what's right, being Daredevil, but it cost him the life of his friend and now he's afraid to ever step into the role again and all of that. And then obviously trying to forget his past as Daredevil, much like Kingpin is trying to at least allude to him forgetting his past. So I do, you know, that kind of theme and trope works for Daredevil. I like the New Yorkers in this show.

32:21
Hey yo Mr. Kingpin! What is happening here? Let's fill this hole. We're waiting for all the documents. Consider them signed.  Hey yo guys, let's fill the hole! It is a very New York show.  Some of it is a little like, this is very... Marvel loves to portray New Yorkers. It's just like, alright. Quirky and, you know, fun. Yeah, he's like, I miss diners. Like, oh you mean Gina's diner? I'm like, oh yeah, I miss it too. They had the best scrambled egg. Oh, when he talks about the... Oh.

32:51
Episode two when the police commissioner comes in to Fisk's office. Give us a call! Was that your police commissioner from The Penguin? That was very good. Give us a call! That was good. You haven't forgotten that. But when the police commissioner comes into Kingpin's office and he's like, hey look, fuck you. I'm retiring and so is a bunch of other cops gonna follow my lead. And Kingpin, and this is what I'm saying, Kingpin is just one of those characters that you hate to love. But when he's eating that Philly and he's talking about Philly sandwiches and he's like, you know...

33:20
We tried one just outside of the city. I'm gonna call it Genas. Genas, and he lifts up that paper and it's a photo of his wife and kid. You know, like he doesn't threaten him. He doesn't threaten him verbally or directly. Just indirectly. And that is what I love about watching Vincent D'Onofrio on screen, is just how much, just how evil You just watch everything he does. This is like Daniel Day Lewis. You believe that that is Mayor Fisk.

33:50
I guess I got a lot of questions, especially on the kingpin side and his wife, but them going to  Matt's therapist, you know what saying? It's like, oh, this is  okay. This is kind of cool. You you're seeing like the puzzle pieces, white tiger being in it. And it's like, Hey, he's white tiger. Boom. You know, like they're not even giving you leading up to him. And I like how they meet, how they just generally meet. Like he's just listening in on this dude getting beat up. And then he's like, Hey, I think they're dynamic.  Uh, the guy, a white tiger and Matt.

34:19
I think they're going to have a really cool dynamic because you know, he's basically seeing like white tigers just trying to do what's right. Hey man, Daredevil ain't been around in years. You people need. I love how casual he was about it too. He's like, you're the white tiger. I don't have my amulet or my suit. And he's just like, wait, hold on. There's a fucking amulet that gives you power. Like, can we talk about where is it at now? Yeah, that's what saying. They're not spoon feeding you a lot of things, which I imagine. he brought it in so casually. It's just one of those things where it's like, oh, OK, you have an amulet and a suit.

34:47
I'm sorry, Drew, do you know how many episodes this show is? Eight. Because right now on the IMDB, they have all the actors listed, and under Charlie Cox's name, he's got 17 episodes listed. But I just clicked it and it said season one will be nine episodes, and season two will air next year. Yeah, did you, have I didn't know that. They've already announced some of the casts for season two already. I didn't know, who's in the season two cast?

35:14
my god, the guy that played in Scream, his name's Lillard, Matthew Lillard. Matthew Lillard has been announced for season two. I don't know who he's playing. Okay, he ain't showing up in this  IMDB, but okay, I take your word for it. All right, so that was our quick little Daredevil Born Again  review, and I guess, Drew, that being said,  let's wrap up this show by talking about the comics we've read and do a little quick little champion season so that way we can head to the shop. Little Friday.

35:41
Friday Vibe Comic Shop visit. I'm gonna go for some Chick-fil-A, Man, I'm so glad you said that. Chick-fil-A. Cause I'm kinda feeling Chick-fil-A, too. Alright, Drew, what comics have you been reading these last two weeks? I haven't been reading much. I've been still kinda like- You one job on the show. I'm just saying, I've been reading Walking Dead. So that compendium, Walking Dead, I've been reading that. Jurassic Park has basically been the end I don't mean to take full credit here, but are you reading Jurassic Park cause I'm reading it? Yes.

36:09
Yes, 100%. Like yeah, you've definitely ignited like, shit, I forgot how good this book is and how much I absolutely adore it. So that, and then I watch Moe. Oh, the Moe, the new Moe Amherd show. Yes, the, I'm on season one. Or, I just finished season one, so now I'm on season two. Don't try to type just Moe into Google. You'll get like everything but the show. Okay, for those that are not in the know, Drew's talking about the show, Moe, M-O, aired as, season one aired in 2022, it's got two seasons.

36:37
And it's described as, Drew, can add to this here, the way that Netflix describes it, Moe Najir straddles the line between two cultures, three languages, and a ton of foolishness as a Palestinian refugee constantly living one step away from asylum on the path to US citizenship. Whoa, that sounds, so he's trying to get his US citizenship? Oh yeah. And he lives in Texas, right? Yep. And he speaks Spanish, English, and Arabic. Oh, sign me up. He's got Moe Ammer, who's an awesome comedian.

37:03
Who else is in this show that is? Everybody that's in there. Oh, that rapper Toby  Wigwee is on this Yeah, he's really good in it. How would you describe, how would you sell the show? Like, what type of person would like the show? a brown man trying to make it.  Brown man making it in America.  With all that's against him and everything, like nothing goes his way. In Texas of all places too. dude, like nothing ever goes his way, but he really does pick himself up by his bootstraps and he does a lot of things. Like, he's a hustler, it's really funny, it's topical.

37:33
It really gives you like an insight on like what immigrants go through when they go, like they come to this country and it's just like, and it showed me like a different side of Texas. Like Texas has like a lot of cultures in there and it seems like  they do have a respect for each other.  And it really just makes me want to eat  a hummus.  Oh man. One more wrap. all the time. It is so, it is so well done. The music is really good. It's quick little twin 20 minute episodes, but.

38:01
Everything that goes wrong in that show goes wrong, it is so interesting to watch. I'm assuming there's an overarching story considering he's trying to get his US citizenship and take care of his family. I'm assuming every episode is almost like a self-contained, right? Yes, but with an overarching theme. He's trying to get his asylum, so he's trying to do a lot of things to make money and do this and help his mom out and his brother out. Because he's definitely one of those, he takes care of his brother and his mom.

38:29
Alright, consider it. I mean, this is speaking to  a lot of different things in me. So I will, you know, actually now that I've fucking re-upped on the Netflix subscription, thanks Blythe, she's over here trying to watch.  She made me pay. Re-upped the Netflix subscription to watch Love is Blind. So now I've got to get my money's worth out of it too.  Alright, do you got anything else to add? Oh, I saw,  because we were reading, watching Daredevil, I read the, I've been re-reading the Chip Sardarsky Daredevil with Cheto that does the art.

38:59
That dude is amazing.  His entire arc of Daredevil, do you remember what happened to the Chips for the Rescue one? Yes, the overall premise is that  there's a new cop that joins the force. He's got a thing against- Colton and he has an axe to grind. He's got an axe to grind, especially against vigilantes.  Daredevil murders someone on accident, He gets into a fight, yeah, yeah. He gets into a fight. He gets the crap beat out of him by three dudes. And he's like, oh man, I

39:28
I fought this, I fought that, and  my tombstone's gonna be reading that I was killed by three little punk kids or whatever. So he goes and fights and goes away, but then as Matt's passed out, he's passed out, he's bloodied all over,  and that news report comes in, like, this just in, Daredevil beat up three things, two of them are in critical condition, one of them has died, and then  Wilson Fisk is licking his lips like that dude Is he mayor at this point? Yeah, he's definitely mayor at this point.

39:56
Okay, so that's where they're pulling from in the show is like Fisk is mayor, he's got Axe of Ground against vigilantes, obviously, and then it's about the dynamic between the mayor, the police force. We haven't met Cole in the show yet, but in the comic books he's a big proponent of like... I think he's from Chicago and he comes in and he's trying to get all the corruption done. And isn't like a Daredevil or Matt at this point, he kind of swears off being a Daredevil?

40:24
something like that or he goes like full vigilante? I think he goes full vigilante on this one in the sense of like, cause yeah, he's running around just trying to,  he's just running around on the two, the rooftops doing parkour.  And he's just basically like, I just want people to know that I'm around. He's like, I'm not going to beat up anybody, but I need people to know that like, if they think about robbing that bank, I dare to be watching. It's a good run for, I  don't remember how far I got into it.

40:50
Cause that is one of those long, that's what I like about Chips Darsky is when he's gonna go on a run or when he's on a run, he's in it for the long haul and you're getting like a full story. And Marco Chichetto, I'm sure I'm saying that wrong, but he's also down for the long haul and he provides some excellent art. Okay. All right. Let me tell you about what I've been reading. I got a couple of things I want to champion. First and foremost, since we're talking about shows, I'm a champion invincible.

41:16
Once again, I just caught up with episode six that I didn't watch the new one that came out today, episode seven. But Drew, when I tell you,  first of all, how far are you? I got up, is season two,  I'm not that far. I'm probably, I'm on episode two of the new season. Okay, get to episode six, which sounds like a lot, but it'll go by quick.  Episode six is the one where he meets,  what's that dude's name, Powerslide? The electric, oh my, we know what's coming for this thing.

41:45
Is it the entire episode is that one or we're building up to it?  It's that one. Oh, wow. So that's a turning point in the  dude. Okay. Okay. See, you see how hype I'm getting. I'm getting hype because watching this episode made me realize I'm like, Oh, this is when invincible in the comic just ramps up to heater. This is the turning point. Bro. Okay. I love that cover. The cover of them two like charging at each other. Oh my God. So episode six is called you look kind of dead.

42:13
Uh, and I'm trying to find the IMDB, but I apologize. Episode six is called All I Can Say Is I'm Sorry.  And that line shows up in the episode and it is, it is, man,  oh my God. It's a great episode. I'm telling you, just get to episode six and I promise it'll all be worth it. I'm trying to find the name of the actor that plays Powerslide, but I cannot seem to find it that fast, but just know this. They, they deliver in this episode. So Invincible has been great. Episode six, think from here on out is going to be.

42:42
just like must watch TV. One thing that Invincible does that I've noticed is that they use real music. They use like, you know, actual songs, like you could find on Apple Music. And it's not, and I think they might've, I don't know if, if, into the Spider-Verse influenced that at all, but I think it adds to, you know, when people are like, hey, I'm a little hesitant to watch animated shows cause a little kitty. I think like them including music, like real music, you know, songs, know, rap songs, R &B songs, whatever, that would even include like some indie rock.

43:10
It just kind of keeps it grounded. It kind of keeps it serious. Yeah, yeah, you're like, oh, OK, there's hip hop in this universe. Simu Liu shows up in this episode, or in one of these episodes. And that's also the fun thing, is that you're like, why do I know that voice? And Amazon Prime, if you stop it, it'll show you like, hey, here's who in this scene. Simu Liu plays a multipole, duplicates the brother. Oh, wow. It's so good, They got the best cast of characters over here. I also want to give a shout out, or put a spotlight on Jonathan Donovan.

43:39
plays Machine Head who shows up in this season and one of the episodes actually in that same episode with Simon Lu playing multipall dude Machine Head is so fucking funny and Jonathan Donovan kills it okay kills it so  yeah I'm a champion invincible  and I guess listeners use this opportunity to catch up with it because episode 7 came out this week but episode 6 is a powerful episode  and in terms of comics man I'm just gonna say James Heron that's all I'm gonna say I have been reading  I've read the first volume of ultra mega and if

44:09
If Gotham City Lime has it, I'm gonna click volume.  That volume is unapologetic and  you are not prepared for all the stuff that they really do a good job of making twist here, making twist here, making twist here. You're like, what? And I think it's logical I went to Ultraman, considering I love the  Ultraman manga right now. So when I was looking for something to read on Global Comics,  I was like, yo.

44:35
I'm in like this Kaiju Ultraman mode, you know, mood right now. I don't remember finishing Ultramega. They've got the first trade on Global Comics. Let me just read that. I forgot that every issue was  like oversized, whatever, think like 48 pages.  man, that first volume has so much story in it.  And the art obviously is incredible. The colors, I think Dave Stewart does the colors, incredible. The story, like you said, like just how

45:04
gory graphic, also heartfelt.  The story of a dad passing along this curse and power to his son, and it's post-apocalyptic world, monster, or kaijus. I like how they deal with all the destruction, and how these big  animals, like  you said, when the tooth gets knocked out, they use that. Yeah, yeah.  It is fun, the nuances they play into of, okay, have you ever thought about...

45:31
what happens when a kaiju and someone like ultra mega ultra mega fight. I'm sorry. say ultra mega, but I keep men say Ultraman fight. It's like these guys are so big that if they're punching each other, they're sending like, you know, shock waves across the city. So people are like having concussions or when, you know, a kaiju gets stabbed and it's bleeding. Well, that's the equivalent of like Niagara Falls, you know, opening up in this monster. Drowning people. So ultra mega is super gory, but awesome. So it got me going down a ultra mega rabbit hole.

45:58
because obviously volume two of Ultra Mega is currently coming out. So I have been pulling those every week.  So I'm gonna play catch up on that. But I started reading Rumble for the first time. I swear to God I was about to say, you should read Rumble. Rumble is a series that I have heard, like Nick Wagner comes to mind. Wagner's yelling right now. Yeah he is. He's probably banging on the door right now. I remember you were really big in that Rumble. Like Rumble is one of those, like when  people say it's one of their favorite comics, you're like, I don't know anything about it, but I can see why.

46:28
So Rumble Bing by John Arcudi with James Heron on the art. It's kind of hard to describe. Yeah, I'm going to read the solicitation for anyone that's curious. Rumble is about a scarecrow walks into a bar and perceives a wrecked habit across two worlds after a long absence. Scarecrow warrior god is back and very unhappy. You know, this is not a very good solicitation, I will admit. Just know that it's.

46:52
It says here, it's Louis C.K. meets Robert E. Howard in a David Fentry universe. That's one hell of a fucking- Yeah, I was about say, it's Conan the Barbarian  scarecrow. Yeah, he's just a warrior scarecrow that comes back and he has a really fucking gun sword.  and the names can be a little tough to say at times, so it makes it sometimes little hard to follow, but I get the overall premise. All I know is the art is great, the action is James Heron should do a Men in Black series. I guess I never, wow.  Just because- That's  good.

47:21
He draws aliens so good. That's one thing I appreciate. There's always some sort of weird looking alien that shows up and you're like, are you real human? He's like, no, this is like an alien in a human body. And you're like, OK. is good. Rumble is great. So I'm in a James Heron bag. So if you got any more recommendations for James Heron. What do you want to see James Heron do? Doctor Strange or Hellboy? Well, James Heron comes from Hellboy. OK, I agree. BPRD, which I think I'm going go check out his BPRD stuff. So in closing, James Heron, I'm a champion Ultra Mega and Rumble. Invincible is Fire.

47:49
And  I also have been reading this old Iron Man series from 2007, which is not really that old. Oh, dude, those pages that you have sent me are like gorgeous. But it's called Iron Man Enter the Mandarin. You can find that on the Marvel Unlimited app. And if you want to buy a physical copy, you go on Amazon right now and buy the  paperback for $8. It's stupid cheap. But it's written by Joe Casey, who I just had an interview with, with art by Eric Kinnett. Art looks amazing.  It basically tells a story of Iron Man meeting the Mandarin for the first time.

48:19
and him like absolutely getting his ass kicked by the Mandarin. yeah, and then obviously having to like learn how to defeat the Mandarin, but it's a six issue mini series that  is,  uh, Joe Casey said, cause I brought it up to Joe Casey. was like, yo, what do you remember about this? He's like, dude, I had a lot of fun in that  story because Iron Man  one hadn't come out yet, but we knew it was coming out because we worked at Marvel. So they were like, Hey, we need to build some hype about Iron Man and Mandarin. Can you do a story about like their first meeting kind of reintroduce people?

48:48
So, and he was like, yo, Eric Knet brought it. So,  yeah, a good little Iron Man story if you haven't read a lot of Iron Man. And I think with that being said, Drew, we've got,  we can still hit the comic shop if we now.  Listeners, that's all we got for you today. Thank you so much for hanging out with us.  Your homework,  we gave you an hour and a half episode.
